The ushers are often the first to encounter the worshipers at the door of the church. So this is a ministry of hospitality. Ushers also facilitate the mechanics of worship—handing out bulletins, identifying seating spaces for latecomers, counting the number of people present, bearing the elements—the bread and wine—forward at the offertory, passing the offertory basins for the collection, straightening and cleaning after worship, and counting the collection plate for the treasurer.
